The annual points competition for the Claret Jug will take place on Sunday 19 February at 12.15pm. As always all members are invited to participate, just turn up early on the day to register.
The Claret Jug, with wonderful curling adornments, was presented to the club by
Mrs James Forbes Lumsden in January 1887.
From research, the Jug designer is Christopher Dresser (1834-1904). Probably made by the firm of Hukin & Heath in 1883-85. His simplicity of design, as opposed to the flamboyant designs of the Victorian era put him ahead of his time. Very few pieces of his work are still in existence. – J.F.Donald (Past Member ACC) – 22/11/78
It was awarded annually for an unspecified competition from 1887 until 1908. No further inscriptions appear on the jug until 1967 when it was resurrected and presented to the winner of the club's annual points competition. The wooden plinth with polished steel band was later added in 1997.
